Anggun Sasmi (born in Jakarta, 29 April 1974; 
 is Indonesian singer who now has French citizenship. She is the daughter of Darto Singo, an Indonesian artist, and Dien Herdina, a woman who was a relative of Yogyakarta Palace. He started his career by appearing on stage at the age of seven years Ancol, then record an album of children two years later. Under the guidance of musician Ian Antono, Anggun studio recording his first album in Indonesia berjudulDunia I Got in 1986. However, the name of the new Anggun soared after the release of the single titled "Dreams" in 1989. At a very young age Anggun has succeeded to reach the peak of its popularity as a rock singer in Indonesia with the award he achieved "Artis Hot Indonesia 1990-1991".In 1994, Anggun decided to leave Indonesia and realize his dream of becoming an international artist. With the help of Erick Benzi, a major 
producer of France, in 1997, Anggun successfully released his first international album entitled Snow on the Sahara in 33 countries around the world, including the United States who became an international music baromoeter. Since then Anggun has produced as many as five international albums that were recorded in multi-languages, especially French Inggrisdan language. Anggun also has collaborated with many foreign artists, including Julio Iglesias, Peter Gabriel, and Pras Michel of The Fugees group.Anggun is an Indonesian singer who broke through the world's first international music and her albums have achieved gold and platinum awards in several European countries. Anggun has sold more than 10 million records throughout his career. Anggun has won several awards for his achievements, including the gift of the prestigious "Chevalier des Arts et Lettres" from the French government. Anggun also has twice asked to
be spokesman for the United Nations (UN), the ambassador of Microcredit in 2005 and ambassador of Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in 2009.In 1994, Anggun launched a compilation album titled Best Lost that includes hit songs for Anggun in Indonesia. After that, Anggun sell her record company and moved to Europe to realize the dream of becoming an international singer. With her husband Michel Georgea, Anggun settled in London, Inggrisselama a year to start his career again from scratch. He was diligent in sending demo tapes to various studios in the UK and also go to clubs to introduce himself as a singer. High cost of living in London making money from the sale of a record company Anggun out little by little. Had to accept disappointment gracefully months later when all the demo tapes did not get a positive response. Anggun finally be on the conclusion that he would not have a future in the UK and plans to start a career in another European country. He had intended to move to Holland, but then he switched to French.Two years after leaving Indonesia, finally Anggun met Erick Benzi, one of the great French producer who had worked on the album a number of famous singers such as Celine Dion, Jean-Jacques Goldman and Johnny Hallyday. Benzi vocal abilities captivated by Anggun and immediately offered to record an album. Graciously agreed and decided to learn the French language is taught. The assistance Benzi, Anggun was recruited by Columbia Records in France. Not only that, Anggun also managed to get a contract parent label Sony Music International for the album to be distributed internationally.On June 24, 1997, Anggun released her first album titled French speaking Au nom de la lune. The most prominent of this album is a total change in Anggun musical path, from rock music for years they do a pop music with a touch of ethnic sounds of traditional instruments Indonesia. Anggun said, "I want to introduce Indonesia, but with a progressive manner, in the lyrics, the sound, but the most important by myself." Anggun's first single "La Neige au Sahara" became an instant hit and was recorded as the most frequently played song on French radio in 1997. Anggun's first album is successfully reaping huge success with sales of more than 150,000 copies in France and Belgium. Anggun also managed to be nominated for "Best Newcomer" at the Victoires de la Musique, the highest award for French music industry. Anggun hit the international music market with the launch of the English version of his first album, titled Snow on the Sahara in 33 countries in Asia, Europe, and America. In addition to songs adapted from the album Au nom de lalune, Anggun also recycles old songs owned by singer David Bowie titled "Life on Mars". For the Southeast Asia market, Anggun Indonesia includes a language song titled "Back". Anggun's first single "Snow on the Sahara" were successful and ranked first in Italy, Spain, and several countries in Asia. The song also reached the top five on the UK Club Chart in the UK and used as a promotional song world of Swatch watches. Snow on the Sahara album sold over 1.5 million copies worldwide and won the Diamond Export Award. The album also holds the record as a singer album Asia with the highest sales outside Asia.In the United States, which is a mecca for world music, Snow on the Sahara was released in May 1998 by Epic Records. Anggun toured for nine months in the country to promote his album. While there, Anggun was invited by the Canadian singer Sarah McLachlan to perform at Lilith Fair, a women's music festivals around the United States. Anggun also appeared as supporting actress in a concert tour of several artists such as The Corrs and Toni Braxton. Anggun had appeared on American print media, such as Billboard and Rolling Stone magazine. Anggun also several appearances on American television, like on The Rosie O'Donnell Show and the New York Sessions at West 54th, and an exclusive interview on CNN's World Beat program.Gracefully managed to nick history by becoming the first artist to penetrate the national Indonesia Billboard music charts. Single "Snow on the Sahara" reached position 16 on the Billboard Hot Dance / Club Play and position 19 on the Billboard Chart Border Breakers. Anggun song also ranked second only to Celine Dion to join the list of journalists Billboard singles chart in 1998. Although it is quite phenomenal, Anggun album is somewhat failed in America and not able to penetrate the Billboard 200 album charts. This album was ranked 23 on the Billboard Heat Seekers Chart and so far sold about 200,000 copies nationwide.
